Guitar Hero 3 was released on Sunday, and Rock Band be damned, it seems like the franchise is bigger than ever. A little too big, in fact. The online play of Guitar Hero 3 on the Xbox 360 is somewhat unstable; the system has been having a hard time keeping up with the load.
Quick Matches seem to not work at all, with the game either failing to connect to any other players, or the title hanging completely. If you search for games to play, your luck is usually a little better, but that feature is still somewhat on the flaky side. Playing Face-Offs and Battle Mode online has been fun the few times I have been able to connect to a game, but it's been a headache to get anything to work with any regularity.
The community site is also getting pounded as gamers try to link up their accounts to compare scores across multiple platforms; the site has been up and down since release, and the account-linking feature seems to be barely working. The Guitar Hero forum admins seem aware of the issue, at least.
The launch of Guitar Hero III has produced heavy amounts of traffic to the website, and this traffic has caused a number of users to have problems with linking their accounts and uploading scores. We are well aware of these issues, and we our working as fast as we can to fix both problems. You can still play through GH III, and rack up as many high scores as possible, and those scores will be displayed when we smooth things out.
It's good to know that they're working on it, but it's also somewhat frustrating that the game was released with online components that don't seem to workwell yet. You can bide your time with offline play and practice while all this madness gets straightened out, but we're looking forward to everything working painlessly in the future.
